Distributed computing is the process of aggregating the power of several computing entities to collaboratively run a single computational task in a transparent and coherent way, so that they appear as a single, centralized system.
you don't know where processing occurs....
EX: INTERNET
It's about as effective as using SETI@Home to detect extra terrestrial life.
Well, if you at home write a crawler to build a massive database about stuff, you could bring it in on a CD and let your work computer crunch the data and produce statistical measures that might be useful.
Crawlers are pretty simple, just implement a breadth first search that make http requests to a set of seed pages then unions any matched URLs to the visit list you are incrementing through.
If you use Google SERPs as seeds and pick up emails for example, thats something you can do to relate keywords to contacts, but I'm sure you're not intrested in spamming info@domain mailboxes...
Another options is just to do some stats about linking structure itself as preamble to a search engine. I built a search engine that contained 50k documents, so it was pretty small, but calculating the probability distribution of arriving on that page from the linking structure took about 12 hours... although my computer is really slow.
I like openMosix:

easy to set up and manage and powerful.
Distributed computing is the application of resources from multiple computers, networked into a single environment, to a single problem at the same time. Distributed computing is often used to do scientific calculations or financial modeling.
Note, in addition to distributed computing, IT pros often talk also about grid computing which is very close to distributed computing. Grid computing is, simply said, distributed computing on the biggest scale.
This page explains it very nicely and provides a picture too:

Cheers!
Distributed Computing is one of the branch which is can be said to be a form of Grid Computing. Distributed computing presents the idea of scattering processing across system boundaries, without any limitation as imposed in a clustered computing. Providing a middlelayer for abstraction from lower layer heterogeneity, it imposes a virtual organization over the present physical system. This is almost what Grid computing is based on, except a small difference in the approach towards the term. Distrubuted Computing environment creates an environment of tightly coupled facilities which are targetted towards a common goal, where as Grid is more of an end-to-end architecture which 'also' facilitates enveloping a distributed computing environment.
Also, in a conventional disrtibuted computing environment, the user has some or complete knowledge about the nodes and the underlying architecture. Wheras this is not true for a Grid System, and the user is not required to anything about the underlying topology or any individual nodes in particular. Distributed computing is about firing request on specific node(s), unlike Grid where interaction is with the system as a whole and not with any node(s) in particular.
IN particular if we talk about some technology which helps implement distributed nature of computing, like CORBA, it too holds some resemblence to the concept of Grid. But, that resemblence is limited to the distributed nature. Corba talks about object oriented approach towards execution of an application or part thereof, on a remote machine; whereas Grid is on the generic side which does not have a hard set rule as to what has to be the way of application execution. To put it in more general form, Corba is one way of remote execution, but remotely executing an application is just one of ideas in Grid and even that is not limited to Object Oriented approach.
XML is rapidly being adopted as a standard syntax for describing the structure of data and for encoding structured or semistructured data in a manner that facilitates interchange. XML can be viewed simply as an exchange form, but our interest concentrates more heavily on studying XML as an encoding form for persistent data.

How does distributed computing help to create a system faster than the world's fastest computer?
For some specific tasks, splitting it into many small parts and send them to be executed each by a different computer can take advantage of a lot of existing computer and make the problem resolution easier.
Say you take the seti project as an example. It's goal is to analyze radio wave coming from the sky to try to identify artificial patterns. It's a repetitive task, you do the exact same thing for every second of recording for every listening station out there. Instead of having one giant computer that need to process them all at an incredible speed, for a incredible price; they just send tiny pieces of the cake to any volunteer pc over the world and collect the results. It cost nothing, and those computers get automatically updated by their owner every couple of years. There is many thousands of users sharing their pc free time to work on this project, making their combined power quite impressive, and beating any super computer that would like to take them on.
Obviously, not every task is suitable for this. It need to be splitted in a multitude of subtask independant of eadh other to be possible.
As some say, where it take nine month to a woman to give birth, nine women cannot give birth to a child in one month... :-)
No, they are two different things which are interlinked.
Distributed Systems :- Like internet , LAN , Wi-Fi Network etc.
Mainly used for transfering data communicating pourposes.
Distributed Computing :- Instead of runing an algorithm on a single pc with limited computational resources , we can run the same algorithm on a number of pc's to improve it's performance.(Example)
There is no Distributed Computing without Distributed Systems.Nevertheless they are still two different things.
I am not sure, but I believe the answer to 1. is d).
For 2. the answer is a). Answers b) and c) are incorrect because they will not create a link, they will just paste the value from Excel to Word.

You are looking for a debugger. A decent free one for windows is at [1]. But if you google around for windows debuggers you might find something that suits your needs more.
If you have Visual Studio, it comes with a very powerful visual debugger.
I currently participate in the data folding project for SETI at home, which participate in the search for extra-terrestrial life.
Sharepoint and Groove can live on 2003 Enterprise Server allowing for unlimited connections with the right license.
Distributed computing utilizes a network of many computers, each accomplishing a portion of an overall task, to achieve a computational result much more quickly than with a single computer. In addition to a higher level of computing power, distributed computing also allows many users to interact and connect openly. Different forms of distributed computing allow for different levels of openness, with most people accepting that a higher degree of openness in a distributed computing system is beneficial.
The segment of the Internet most people are most familiar with, the World Wide Web, is also the most recognizable use of distributed computing in the public arena. Many different computers make everything one does while browsing the Internet possible, with each computer assigned a special role within the system.
