Banking and Online Security

Banking and Online Security

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many of our clients conduct banking activities as well as stock brokerage activities online. In addition they participate in online auctions, make purchases online, and access private files such as their secure e-mail. It is while conducting these online activities that our clients are the most exposed in terms of having their privacy violated or worse.

We’ve work together with people we know in the internet security industry to put together a package of software and encrypted anonymous Internet access which will prevent your ISP from keeping log files on your activities such as web sites visited, e-mail sent and received, files downloaded etc. Most of the large ISPs save this data almost indefinitely. As of late Europe has begun to pass legislation requiring the ISPs to retain data for a certain amount of time generally at least two years. The implication of this is that by examining the log files from your ISP one can determine where you are banking by seeing the bank website where you log in appear in your ISP logs. One must remember an ISP is normally an unlicensed individual or corporation that just decided to become an ISP. They do not go through any government scrutiny, they don’t have to complete any educational requirements, they don’t have to go through a background investigation and what we’re saying is they could be convicted child molesters or bank robbers and lawfully operate an ISP service. We think it’s insane to trust these people with your vital private data. While we are not personally familiar with cases concerning ISPs blackmailing customers we feel confident that this is something that does take place and just is not making it into the media probably because the victim of the blackmail attempt is in no position to go public.

Anonymous Internet Access, Email and Data Storage - With the anonymous internet provider we use, all the log files the ISP has will appear as encrypted illegible data. You first connect to the internet and then connect to one of many servers the anonymization service has around the world using your password to get into the server. All the ISP would be able to see is that you connected to a certain IP address (the anonymization server) and that you were connected for a certain period of time and a certain amount of data was moved. What you did on the Internet, where you went, what you downloaded, etc. would all be encrypted and no one will be to know any of this by looking at your log files. It would decades to unencrypt this data. The IP address that will show in your log files at the ISP is simply the server for the anonymization service. Once you log onto this password protected server you then go out into the Internet. All the websites you go to capture the IP address of the anonymity service server not your real IP address thus you are anonymous in anything you do online. They have several ways of connecting. One way only lets you go out into the internet if you are connected to their server, so if the connection to their server was lost no data would leave your computer and your real IP address would not be detectable. Yes this is well thought out. If you are behind a firewall at work you can use this service as long as you have the ability to browse websites. They have an additional way of connecting through a web page and the port for web pages. You can not serve or host web pages with this system. You can not be an ftp site either, but you can ftp down from a site. You can be anonymous in: web browsing, emailing, chatting, IRC, FTP, P2P (you can do P2P both ways with the non abusive P2P programs, not the ones that open 99 ports, they are blocked), instant messaging, chatting, forums, newsgroups, etc. You get one account which allows one computer at a time to use the service. They usually have 20 or so servers up around the world and you can use all of them. You can connect from any number of computers, just one at a time. It is a password based system, no hardware involved. Macs work and Linux too but they do not support Linux you are on your own but it works.

The fact that your real IP address is not used in your online activities such as e-mail, chatting, browsing websites etc., gives you a tremendous protection against hacking, nuke attacks and other malicious behavior that one can encounter on the Internet. You also have the ability to open up an unlimited amount of free e-mail accounts around the world and making them anonymous because the mail provider will not be able to capture your true IP addresses and thus does not know who you are.

The anonymization service also has an encrypted web based e-mail service that allows you to send email and receive email without your real IP address appearing anywhere in the mail. They also allow you to store 50MB of data on the email server. The anonymization service does not know who you are, does not have any of your identity documents and does not have your credit card on file. Well thought out isn’t it.

The anonymization service that we use has servers around the world; they only retain log files for five days. Five days is hardly enough time for some lawyer to get a court order for your log files if the lawyer knew you were using the service and was able to locate the service which is not going to be easy and then the question of whether or not a subpoena has any validity in the jurisdiction in question comes up. It is my understanding that this particular anonymization service has never received a lawful subpoena yet. Most subpoenas allow for 20 days to respond or longer so the response may come back no data in our possession to disclose. The requests usually involve wanting to know who was using this particular server on a given day to go to a certain IP address, and a time is also provided. This requires a lookup of the logs IF a lawful subpoena was provided which has never yet happened to them. Now if the logs are deleted every five days there are no log files to look up. Usually requests for information are made weeks and even many months after the occurrence.

The anonymous Internet service secures all your online activities and prevents your ISP from having useable log files thus protecting your privacy seriously. Now we will discuss other ways to secure your activities online and otherwise.

Today most businessmen that travel bring their laptops with them while traveling. It is common to use Wi-Fi connections in hotels, restaurants, airports, cruise ships, and Internet cafes. Many people do not realize how vulnerable one is when they are using Wi-Fi connections away from the home or office. Bad guys can do an evil twin attack where they masquerade as the Wi-Fi base station and intercept your data. Others attacks enable the bad guys come up into your computer through the Wi-Fi.

What we have done is put together a comprehensive package of software that is easy to install that will protect you and your computer from practically any known form of attack or violation of privacy. The software we use is entirely freeware. If you have a few hundred hours of free time to research the various software out there and test them against the other available products you do not need us and can do it yourself. You can generally find a free replacement for any available software being sold, if you know where to look for it. We do not supply hacked or cracked software, only legitimate freeware. They do not try to sell you upgrades either, freeware only. Most of our clients do not have this amount of free time available for this so we decided to offer this service to our clients. We do not provide this service to people who are not otherwise our clients. This package of freeware leaves you anonymous in that you do not have to provide any credit card information to the software companies. When you log in for updates you can be on the anonymous internet provider so the software companies never get your true IP address and have no idea who you might be or even where you are. Some of the software requires you to register by providing an e-mail address, and it is suggested that you use the email address provided you by the anonymous Internet provider which is not a free provider, we have to pay for these accounts.

Online Security Package Below follows a description of all the software that is included in this package. We do provide full support by encrypted hush messenger or e-mail which can be encrypted or not, your choice. Support turn around time is typically two to three hours. We have an installation help section that includes screen shots to assist one in the installation process. We also have an FAQ section. You will have all the support you need.

Anti- Spyware Software – We provide three of them, and suggest you use two of them at all times. Spyware takes many different forms. Some spyware one can download itself into your computer from a web site. Other spyware comes attached or embedded in file attachments, programs or other executables you download. spyware essentially captures information about you and passes it on through the internet to the bad guy seeking this data for identity theft, hacking, fraud etc. The worst form of spyware is the keystroke logger. The keystroke logger captures everything you type and passes it on over the internet to the bad guy. The keystroke logger can capture user names, passwords, etc.

The spyware updates itself to get the latest definitions of new anti-spyware. It runs in the background to grab spyware as it enters your system and you do periodic scans of your system as well. We believe in using two spyware programs in case a new spyware program can fool one of the programs it would be most unlikely to fool two of them at the same time. Anyone doing any online banking, online bill paying, online trading of stocks, online auctions, etc should have these programs.

Anti- Keystroke Logger and Keystroke Logger – Yes we know we said both. We provide you with your own keystroke logger, which may be illegal to use in your jurisdiction or workplace, so do check with an attorney in your jurisdiction before downloading this program. The keystroke logger we use does not have the capability of being installed secretly in other people computers but it can be installed secretly in your computer and this would enable you to see what your computer is being used for when you are not around. It will capture everything typed, screenshots etc. Useful to see what the secretary, children etc. are up to. The program is stealth and they will not be able to determine it is operating or even in the computer.

Our anti-spyware programs will catch key stroke loggers. To add another layer of security and we are most fond of extra layers of security believing an ounce of prevention is worth a kilo of cure, we have another software:

On Screen Keyboard - This is an onscreen keyboard operated by your mouse. It places a keyboard on your screen; you put your cursor in the spot where you want say your password to be entered to get into your stock trading account and using your mouse click on the numbers, letters of your password using the on screen keyboard. This means your keyboard is untouched and there is nothing for a keystroke logger to capture. Just make sure the on screen keyboard is in a different location each time so in case there was a screenshot of it one could not map the coordinates of the letters etc. since mouse clicks will register but it is impossible to determine what letters, numbers etc you were clicking on if the location keeps changing each time you use it.

Application Based Firewall – This is perhaps your most important software. This is much better than a regular firewall which is designed to only block intrusions into your computer from outside. An application based firewall notifies you by a pop-up window every time a program or application attempts to connect to the internet as well as blocking outside intrusions. You can grant the program permission or not to connect out into the internet. If you see a strange program attempting to connect you can deny it permission and search for the program by name on Google to see what it is and if necessary go back and give it permission to access the internet or delete it if indicated. This stops a Trojan, backdoor, or other malware from doing what is called phoning home. Phoning home is the Trojan telling the bad guy that the program is installed, which ports it has opened and your IP address so the bad guy can operate your computer from afar. He can download your files, upload files or programs into your computer, send spam through your computer or delete everything. The firewall will also show you what processes are running on your computer and what ports are opened, this however is fairly technical and most of you will not have the ability to understand what is right and wrong and will have to trust the program to alert you, which it does a good job of. It will alert you when your computer is being probed for vulnerabilities such as port scanning etc. I have seen computers get alerts dozens of times daily, especially if you are using a large ISP. 95% of the firewalls out there are not application based including the one with Windows thus you do not have the ability to block individual programs from getting on the internet.

Hard Drive Cleanup – Unfortunately windows leaves a lot of telltale tracks behind even if you delete files. We have a program that will go in and sanitize your hard drive so that your private information can not be recovered by someone who obtained physical possession of your computer like a thief. It will also prevent a hacker from finding vital information about you if they managed to hack into your computer BUT if you use our software this will be a most unlikely occurrence.

This program will:

Clean Internet Explorer's History and Drop Down URL List

Delete cookies and keep cookies that store important login information.

Select which files should populate the "Recent Documents" list, even if you haven't opened them recently!

Populate history lists in Windows Media Player with fake innocent files and URLs like CNN

Permanently Deletes Typed URLs

Permanently Deletes Recent Document List

Permanently Deletes Temp Files

Permanently Deletes Internet Explorer History

Permanently Deletes Run/Search History

Empties the recycle bin

Includes over 150 compatible plug ins, all free, that can clear out the history lists of just about any program you own!

Provides a comprehensive log each time the software is run, so that you can see exactly what the program is doing!

Password Protected Access

Saved settings can be encrypted for extra security!

As you can see this program will sanitize your hard drive so no one can tell what you did, where you went, etc.

Hard Drive Encryption – Some of you may have need for greater hard drive security. It may be necessary for you to travel with your laptop into harms way, maybe traveling into dictator controlled nations of which there are plenty of, uncivilized third world countries etc. where you may not be able to retain physical control over your computer. You may not want anyone seeing your files if they get possession of your computer. We have included a program which will encrypt your entire hard drive for you. This means that if someone got their hands on your computer physically they would not be able to do anything with the computer. They would need your password to undo the encryption. This is a far cry from having Windows call for a password which is something most high school kids can work around in two minutes. This is serious 256 bit encryption that would take decades to unencrypt. This program keeps the encryption running on the fly so you are never unencrypted. If this isn’t enough the program enables you have an undetectable hard drive partition contained within the encrypted hard drive and this portion is also encrypted with a different password required. This hidden section is not normally detectable. If one took the computer to a forensics laboratory and spent thousands of dollars and a lot of time would they find it? Maybe but it would depend on the sophistication level of the lab, their resources, experience, how much time they had to devote to this task and if they were even looking for this. The protection level afforded by this program is extreme. Once I asked a contractor about burglar proofing a house. He said if you can get into the house, so can a burglar. The same applies here, if you can get into your computer so can a serious forensics expert with the right tools and time but you can make it very expensive and time consuming so only the most dedicated forensics experts with all the right tools, training and a big budget will complete the task of unlocking your computer. If one has files that are extremely sensitive they can encrypt them, store them on a server in some country somewhere and only access the server where the files are through the anonymization service keeping nothing pertaining to these files or the server they are kept on in your computer. Make sure the password or encryption key does not say what it is really for, give it another name. Make sure you don’t forget where it is in your computer.

If you have real sensitive files you can encrypt them with one encryption program, then encrypt them with another program. PGP (open source only please) is a decent program but it identifies the encrypted files as being encrypted with PGP. Play games and encrypt the files that are already encrypted with PGP which is bound to drive the cracker crazy when he tries to unencrypt. Additionally, when typing out your files to be encrypted try leaving out spaces, leave out punctuation, and do not use words like – a, but, the, and, or. This will drive the cracker crazy since these are words they target on, plus with no spaces and no punctuation they will be pulling their hair out trying to crack you especially if you double encrypted. Even if they had a roomful of computers running you would probably die of natural causes before they even get close to reading your files.

Anti-Virus Software – Most of you have Norton or the other big brands. Problem is they are the targets for the virus makers. Viruses are designed to defeat these best sellers. The virus makers will not spend a lot of time trying to defeat a lesser known program since so few computers use it. They want a shotgun approach where they can target as many computers as possible. We provide you with two anti-virus programs. Why two? This is in case one of them misses something. Both offer updates on a regular basis. We think highly of both. If you prefer to keep your existing ant-virus software, add one of these in as a just in case back-up.

Web Site Security Certificate Verification Software – What this software does is in real time tells you if the security certificate of the website is valid and pertains to the appropriate website. This will prevent you from going to counterfeit web sites and trying to log in. Counterfeit sites are as real looking as the real site since they are exact duplicates. The counterfeit site can do a DNS poisoning attack on the DNS server your ISP has. This means when you punch in your bank you will be directed to an exact replica site sitting on some server in a third world country. The entry page and the log in page is all there is to the site. You will be told there was an internal error when you attempt to log in and told to try later to keep your suspicions low. All they want is your user name and password so they can log into your real accounts. This is done for EBay, Paypal, banks, stock brokers whatever they want to target. Usually the DNS for the large isp’s is the one they poison so as to affect the largest amount of people possible. The DNS will work normally unless one tries to go to a bank or other site the hackers have targeted. This protective software has pop ups to tell you the site is authenticated and also has other ways of alerting you as to the status of the website you are going to. It all takes place in about 3 seconds from the time the page starts to load, real time basically. You will be told if the site security certificate is authentic and matches the web site. Counterfeits do not pass since any security certificate they have will not be the one for the bank they are counterfeiting, the correct security certificate for the bank sits on the banks website not the counterfeit site. If you use Wi-Fi spots, use large isp’s this is something you should really have.

Password protectors – These are programs that store your different user names, passwords, and other information for particular web sites. These programs seriously encrypt this data. If you lose physical control over your computer as in a theft or other type of physical loss, your passwords will remain safe. Make sure you use a large enough alpha numeric case sensitive password (13 characters is plenty, but 26 is better) and it will take decades to brute force your password, the computer will probably wear out first. We give you two of these programs. One of these programs allows you to set it to log in automatically for you. We do not advocate the use of this program for banking or stock trading. It is useful perhaps for low security log in actions like email sites that have no sensitive data, forums etc. It is good to have two of these programs to increase the workload for someone trying to brute force them open by trying billions of passwords. Now they have two programs to crack and they do not know which one you in fact do use so it doubles the effort. Cracking by brute force is a tedious process that could take 25 computers decades. People prefer to try to guess passwords so use many different passwords based on nothing traceable like names of family, date of birth, phone numbers etc.

Encrypting Files – You at times will have a need to encrypt specific files. This may be to store say contracts, agreements, scans of passports, credit card or licenses, etc. You do not want people to be able to see this data no matter what so there is a need to encrypt it, requiring a serious password to open it which can go in your password protector program. All you do is right click on the file to encrypt it, it prompts for a password and it is that easy. Get cute and make a file called bank log in and store account numbers and passwords for a bank account that you do not have and make sure it is a bank you do not use. Do encrypt this file so it will be the first choice to crack. Make a few files like these with different banks, stock brokers, non existent egold accounts etc. Have fun securing your computer, enjoy life .

Browser – We help you download and switch to a secure browser. Internet Explorer is anything but secure. We will show you how to set up this browser for security.

Support – This is included.

Price - $495.00. This includes one year with the anonymization service. After that it is $100.00 per year. We only supply this service to clients. Payment is by bank wire transfer or western union.

Disclaimer – There is no such thing as a 100% secure hacker proof computer. If you make a computer 100% hacker proof you would not be able to get in either. With this set of software you will be extremely well protected. You must take care as to who has physical access to your computer since such people could install software without your knowledge. You need to be aware as to who has network access to your computer, your wireless network must but be encrypted, you should be careful as to what software you install and download, P2P networks are full of malware. Our software package and anonymization service should keep you trouble free if you update the software often, use the software correctly and run regular scans of your entire system at least weekly. There is no way to guarantee that you will be safe from any and all threats no matter what you do or do not do, so we do not offer any sort of guarantee. There is no way to guarantee that the software will run on your computer. If you are running a recent version of windows you should be fine but there is always a possibility that something in your computer will conflict. Support will work with you to resolve this as best as possible and normally this is a level problem. Generally, we do not experience problems. We do not guarantee that the software will protect you against any threats, hacking, cracking, attacks, or vulnerabilities. There are too many variables we do not have any control of.
